I really love Romanian cuisine, both because I grew up on it at home and also because it’s simple and delicious food. Bucharest is a travel destination full of very successful restaurants and after four days there I can say with a mouth full of Mămăligă that it is very difficult to find bad food. Bucharest Culinary Center is located in the Old City, where you will find a variety of restaurants, cafes, street food stalls and ice cream parlors. Where best to go? Caru cu Bere
Bucharest’s most famous restaurant, and probably the biggest. The restaurant is located in the heart of the Old Town and has three levels of diners plus a fair amount of street tables. It is advisable to book in advance in the evening (the hotel can help you with this) or to consider waiting for about half an hour at the table. We took soup in bread, mămăligă, goulash, Sea bream fish and famous Pavlova cake for dessert. Along with two beers it cost us 70 ley per person (as of April 2018).
A meal in Caro cu Bere is relatively slow compared to other restaurants so it is better to come in the evening without the pressure of time and also enjoy the dance performances that take place there. This is the most expensive restaurant we have come across, but it is still priced at a standard coffee shop in Israel.

Gyros Thessaloniki
There are a lot of places to eat in Shawarma in the Old City, but something about this restaurant particularly attracted us. This self-service restaurant and their flagship dish is the Greek gourmet meat, chicken or pork loaf with French fries, salad and yogurt at a total cost of 15 ley.

Coffeöl Bucharest
If you don’t want to queue for Emilia, right next to her is Coffeöl, a coffee shop created dishes that your Instagram is going to love and will provide you with spectacular pictures of desserts. The flagship dish is hot chocolate with various toppings including whipped cream and cookies that cost 25-29 ley.

Bazar Pub
In the heart of the old town there are many pubs, and what I liked about this place is the light atmosphere, the delicious and cheap food and the seafood here were excellent.

Arcade Cafe
This place functions both as a cafe and as a restaurant and pub, and the food here was excellent. You can choose from traditional Romanian dishes such as the sausages (which were surprisingly good) and also go for fusion dishes from around the world. Another bonus is getting their smoothies which were cool and fun.
